Vastu Shastra
Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture based on ancient texts that describe principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement, and spatial geometry. The word “Vastu” refers to “abode” or “mansion” and “Shastra” or “Vidya” means “science” or “knowledge”.Â
Â
Vastu Shastra is based on the concept of scientifically combining the five basic elements of nature – earth, water, fire, air, and sky – to create a pleasant setting. It offers ideas and guidelines by combining art, astronomy, and astrology to help in building the most beneficial living spaces.Â
Â
Some examples of Vastu Shastra principles include:Â
Â
- Sleeping in a particular direction is highly significant.
- One should never sleep with their head in the north.
- Sleeping towards the south will ensure long life.
- Ideally, the kids’ room should be in the northwest.
- The main door should be stronger and bigger than other doors in the house.
- It should preferably be made of teak wood.
